Being as this is my first attempt at a blog, I'm not sure how good this will be. but here goes.
I remember vaguely reading once that the brightest side of an eclipse was the side you couldn't see. This may seem like an absurd concept, but this single thought has gotten me through some of the worst times in my life. The idea that no matter how dark things may seem, if I
just wait long enough...the bright side will show it's self.
I think one of the most important thing to mention about me is i am the mother of two wonderful children, step mother to two more wonderful children...and have the most amazing husband anyone could wish for. I have a job i love, working as a one-on-one aide for intensive needs middle school children. That is the bright side. The eclipse is the fact that my oldest, Christopher, is now a severe special needs child. HE was a perfectly normal 15 year old.( well as normal as any 15 year old :) . That was over one year ago.
Over the course of seven months, we watched him degenerate from a healthy 5'10" tall, 150 lbs, active social happy child, to a 6'1" 97lb child who had lost the ability to walk, talk, use the bathroom and go to school. He developed both epilepsy and type one diabetes. He also began to hallucinate and eat anything that was not food. (this is called PICA). He became a danger to himself and to others, and had to be watched 24 hours a day. I lost my job as a cashier at home depot because of this. (side note...everyone should shop at Lowe's)
All of his medical doctors kept telling us that there was nothing wrong with him medically, and we needed to bring him to a psychiatrist. Which we did. The psychiatrist told us that this was not a mental health problem, this was a medical problem, bring him back to the doctors. Which we did. By this time, he had stopped eating all together, and was sleeping on the floor in the dog bed.
enter Children's Hospital Boston.....which will be my next post (PS...there is a happy ending)
